the brick watertower
my grandfather built
is in my rear view mirror
by the beach
at parking lot number five
where we meet again

here, long ago
we did the same
but into the dunes
we'd drive
then
with sand in our pants
and seaweed in our hair
into the ocean we'd dive

now
with time long past
and questionable freedom
we each stay inside
our front seats
with windows down
talking for hours
we keep our seatbelts on
