Army sends letters to KIA, asking them to reenlist.

I bet the guy who mailed those letters out will get a medal.

Maneuvers at Bernie's.

tonight, [livejournal.com profile] wendersfan and i were discussing power trios in which the guitarist was the lead singer of the group. we agreed on jimi hendrix, and paul weller. we had a hard time coming up with more. we named a few bands, and stopped when i brought up the jon spencer blues explosion. was the guitarist the lead singer of zz top, did they trade vocals? we forgot nirvana, and buddy holly. shame on us!

"I think this lyric is dealing with depression and angst and mortality. But I know that the place the song was going to get to was that there has to be a reason for the pain that everyone experiences. And I was so taken with the image of the pain that the oyster must go through with the grain of sand inside that becomes a pearl. That is the metaphor-your pain ultimately becomes something beautiful."

The Pearl
(Emmylou Harris)

O the dragons are gonna fly tonight
They're circling low and inside tonight
It's another round in the losing fight
Out along the great divide tonight

We are aging soldiers in an ancient war
Seeking out some half remembered shore
We drink our fill and still we thirst for more
Asking if there's no heaven what is this hunger for?

Our path is worn our feet are poorly shod
We lift up our prayer against the odds
And fear the silence is the voice of God

And we cry Allelujah Allelujah
We cry Allelujah

Sorrow is constant and the joys are brief
The seasons come and bring no sweet relief
Time is a brutal but a careless theif
Who takes our lot but leaves behind the grief

It is the heart that kills us in the end
Just one more old broken bone that cannot mend
As it was now and ever shall be amen

And we cry Allelujah Allelujah
We cry Allelujah

So there'll be no guiding light for you and me
We are not sailors lost out on the sea
We were always headed toward eternity
Hoping for a glimpse of Gaililee

Like falling stars from the universe we are hurled
Down through the long loneliness of the world
Until we behold the pain become the pearl

Cryin´ Allelujah Allelujah
We cry Allelujah

And we cry Allelujah Allelujah
We cry Allelujah

Best thing I've done in a long time.

I don't know what started from this, but a lot did. A hell of a lot.

no need to go to the post office today. it's closed because of Ford's funeral. nothing will close down for my funeral. more offices and businesses will probably stay open. the bars and resturants will do well in celebration. the stock prices of champagne houses will increase.

food will taste better.

ok, i'm going to get a haircut now.

i'm at a loss in some ways so i'm going to get a good part of my hair lopped off later.

i have a bunch of job stuff to do tomorrow - I.D. badge, parking pass, call supervisor to find out what time to be in on thursday.

i can picture it: "we didn't hire you..."

but today has barely started.

My God Allan Jones was an excreble talent. As annoying as he was in A Night at the Opera, he makes you want to slash the screen in A Day at the Races.

No one, not even Allan Jones, is on screen ipecac as Tony Martin is in The Big Store though.

Kitty Carlile is still alive. She's got to be the last surviving cast member from A Night at the Opera!

Know the stateroom scene? I feel like the floor.

Ohio State Hockey beats number 4 ranked Miami University 5-3 to win the Ohio Hockey Classic hardware! Nice goals by Waddell, who got the game winner and Collins. What's with the defensemen scoring the big goals? Tom Fritsche came back this weekend and played well. Picked up an assist on his first shift last night after being out the first half of the year with ulcerative colitus.

Upswing, baby. Upswing!

The year is coming to an end...so as a COMMENT, leave one memory that you and I had together. It doesn't matter if you knew me a little or a lot, anything you remember! DON'T SEND A MESSAGE, LEAVE A COMMENT. Next re-post this and see how many people leave a memory about you. It's actually pretty cool (and fun) to see the responses.

so they hung hussein eh? does execution count in death pools? i don't think execution counts in some pools. I'm being flippant because if folks really think this is going to solve anything they're as mistaken as finding WMD's.

they're airing the tape on the networks I take it? ah, a society in which people get prudish because kim catrall's book is not wrapped in plastic on the bargain table and folks get pissed off because children might see it yet no one bats an eye when a man is filmed having his life taken away.

we warn you, the footage ahead may be graphic.

yes, i know, he was a bad man.

Or thereabouts, five and a half years of my life ends and the "career" path shifts from public to academic. I'm kind of numb. Perhaps it's the two and a half hours sleep. Yes. perhaps becomes so. I feel like the soldier who just gets leave in the world war two movie. You know what happens to him, same as the ensign wearing the red Star Trek shirt.

It's in my hands. It's out of my hands. Freaking hands, make up your mind!

he's been up since three. he went to sleep at eleven. tried to get him back to sleep for an hour and a half.

I'm not sure I could do a life story series the way [livejournal.com profile] jazzykym is doing. Might take me back to areas I really do not wish to explore right now. My life's on an upswing and I'm getting triggered by enough emo crap as it is!

I mean, do you all really need to see MORE entries here?

That's probably going to change next week as I start the new job. But that may just be speculation on my part.

Working at the big box tonight. A drive by 6-10 shift. I should go to the airport after to keep Dave company. Nah :)

I did tell him to not be late. Heck, he's probably there now.

And tonight the number was 4-4-1 and I took home the Writers Block door prize for the first time. I got some notecards and a journal that my wife snapped up once she saw them. They're gone, I have no idea where they are now. Oh well!

The upswing continues. It was fun. I snorted. Maranda had the line of the month for a product that, well, being a gentleman I will not name. It will be brought up, in tones that are not hushed, for years. Joanna looked nice, that's all I'm gonna say. There were virgins, a poet slumming it while on tour, an English gal in the crowd - and boy does Scott do a horrible accent.

I read two new ones. The first was already planned. I read the confessional, a 'mildly shocking' admission of shoe love. I was going to read the revised Isotopes, but Rose wasn't there and since she helped edit it, I wanted her there. So I read a new poem called Pink Guitar Trigger that I wrote today.

Dave showed up. Still going strong after road tripping it from Indianapolis today. I hope he takes his vitamins and gets some rest. I'm just sayin'

My son's new thing is to lift up the toilet seat and slam it down. Makes a nice bang when you're sitting down here.

Oh, and this. I guess they're throwing a party for me at work tomorrow. I was talking with a couple of coworkers and one asked when my last day was. told him Friday. he then said a couple of other things then asked if I would be at my party on Thursday.

Um....

The guy sitting next to him just put his head in his hands and shook his head.

All I said was, "That was brilliant, Dude" and walked away.

It's really hard to put one over on me, especially when you telegraph the surprise a day in advance.
